PHP-Nuke

This is one of the most popular programs for creating interactive web sites, with published items, user comments, and many other features.

PostNuke

Derived from PHP-Nuke, this program is quite similar but has a somewhat different collection of options and add-in modules. It's used for the sites MoonToMars.com, PhysicsHome, and NYJetsFan.com, among many others. Note the wide variety of styles, even though the basic program is the same.

osCommerce

This is a full-function on-line storefront, with easy-to-use administrative features that allow one to change the listed items without having to know anything about making web sites.

These programs, and many others, are available as source code, which means that they can be modified to fit your exact needs. Starting from an established program can save you time and money, yet still give you a custom web site with advanced features.
